UrLine

What UrLine does with your voice.

UrLine asks for a microphone, so this page says plainly what is recorded, what is sent to Google, what is kept, and how to remove all of it. You should be able to read this before you decide to sign up, not after.

Your voice, while you are speaking

When you press a cue and speak, the live microphone stream goes through UrLine's own server to Google Cloud Speech-to-Text, which returns the words you said. That audio is not saved. It exists only for as long as the recognition takes, and then it is gone. Speaking is limited to 15 minutes of connected recognition a day.

The reference voice

By default the voice that reads a revealed line is your own device's, which speaks locally and sends nothing anywhere. Only if you choose a studio voice in Settings does that one line of English text get sent to Google's Gemini text-to-speech service. The audio that comes back is cached so the same line is never paid for twice; that cache holds the line's audio, and neither your recordings nor anything identifying you.

The dialogue you import

The text of a script you paste is sent to Google Cloud Translation to produce the cue in your language. That is the only reason it leaves the server, and it happens once, when you import.

Your own words

When you say or type something in your own language to practise it, those lines are sent through OpenRouter to a free AI language model that writes the English. Providers of free models may keep what they receive or use it to improve their models, so leave names, addresses and anything private out of these lines. If the model is unavailable, the lines go to Google Cloud Translation instead.

What is kept

Your scripts, practice history, favorites, and notebook are stored in Google Firebase under your account. One recording is kept only when you explicitly choose "Keep this take" on a favorite, and a kept take is capped at 45 seconds. Every other recording you make is discarded after it has been turned into text.

What is never logged

The content of your lessons — the dialogue, your cues, and what you said — is excluded from UrLine's operational logs. Those logs record whether a request succeeded, how long it took, and why it failed, so the service can be kept working.

How UrLine counts what is used

UrLine counts visits, signup-page views, completed registrations, logins, and activity such as a line being spoken or a save failing. A random identifier in this tab's session storage connects an arrival with a signup and renews after 30 minutes without a measured action. The server retains a hashed visit identifier and completed stages for up to 400 days, alongside daily totals; it does not keep a page-by-page browsing history. Account identifiers are hashed to avoid counting a registration twice. Once a session it also records a coarse region and a language, read from your device's own clock and browser setting — the same values every website can see — and stored only as a continent-sized bucket such as “Mainland China” or “Europe”, never a city and never a country. Your IP address is not stored in these measurements, not resolved to a place, and not used to work out where you are: if you reach UrLine through a VPN, UrLine keeps no record of your real location and does not try to determine it. These measurements contain no email addresses, dialogue, cues, transcripts, notes, or audio. They use UrLine's own Google Cloud storage, with no advertising service or third-party analytics provider. You can turn counting off below before signing up, and the browser's Do Not Track setting is respected. An account-level opt-out is also available in Settings.

Deleting everything

Settings has a delete control that removes your account, every script, session, note, favorite, and any kept recording. It asks you to type the phrase out in full, because it cannot be undone and there is no backup to restore from.

Your counting preference

This preference is saved on this browser and applies to both website visits and practice activity. It does not affect whether you can use UrLine.

Who processes your data

UrLine runs on Google Cloud and uses Google Firebase for accounts and storage, Google Cloud Speech-to-Text for recognition, Google Cloud Translation for cues, and Google's Gemini text-to-speech for the optional studio voice. Lines you write in your own language are turned into English by a free AI model reached through OpenRouter, whose model providers may retain or learn from them. When an account is created, UrLine sends itself a short notification through Resend, an email delivery service, so that the maker knows somebody signed up; that message contains the new account's email address and nothing else about you, and Resend and OpenRouter (with the model provider it routes to) are the only companies besides Google that handle any of your data. UrLine does not sell data, does not run advertising, and loads no third-party analytics or tracking script of any kind; the anonymous usage counting described above is UrLine's own and goes nowhere else. Beyond Google, Resend appears in the list above for that one notification.

Feedback you choose to send

If you write through the feedback page, or answer the in-app pricing and recommendation questions, your submitted answers are stored for the maker to read. The survey also includes counts of lines spoken and scripts imported, without their content. A hashed account-and-survey identifier lets an initial answer and optional details update one response. An optional email address is kept for replies and is not added to a mailing list. Feedback and survey records are retained for up to two years. Sending feedback is optional; the feedback form requires a category and message, and the survey's extra details and 0–10 recommendation rating are optional.

UrLine is an independent project, not a company. If you want your data removed and cannot reach the control in Settings, or you have any question this page does not answer, get in touch.
